Tollpost Globe contract
Crisplant awarded contract by Tollpost Globe for energy-efficient sortation system
- First parcel centre to commission the energy-efficient, high-speed LS-4000E sorter
- Up to 75% reduction in energy costs compared to competing sorters
- High-capacity sorter capable of handling up to 10,000 items per hour
- Automation will minimise risk to workers and allow staff to undertake more rewarding tasks
Crisplant – a leading global supplier of automated material handling systems – has been awarded a contract to install an energy-efficient high-speed sortation system at Tollpost Globe’s new-build parcel distribution centre in Oslo, Norway. Tollpost Globe is the first parcel distribution company to commission the Crisplant innovative ‘green’ motor technology product, the LS-4000E sorter, which can reduce energy consumption by up to 75%.
The new facility will be Tollpost Globe’s largest distribution centre, handling up to 80% of their total national and international parcels throughput of over 60,000 items per day. The LS-4000E is the first high-speed sortation system to be installed by Tollpost Globe and is capable of sorting speeds of up to 10,000 items per hour.
In addition to the LS-4000E sorter, the system will incorporate parcel and satchel inductions and include a low-level control system. Built using Crisplant's well-proven, field-tested Software Suite™, this will be equipped with a CGS (Colour Graphics System) to provide maximum operator overview of the entire facility system. Due to be handed over in September 2009, the new distribution centre will incorporate 341 metres of the high-speed, high-accuracy LS-4000E sorter, operating at 2.5 metres per second.
The automated handling system will not only increase productivity and efficiency at the centre, but will provide a significantly safer working environment for staff. By eliminating the need for manual handling, staff will be able to focus on more diverse and rewarding tasks which will provide increased job satisfaction and strengthen staff relations.
Ole A. Hagen, Tollpost Globe Director Communication and Marketing, says: “Tollpost Globe focuses on environmentally friendly products and logistics. Crisplant provides us with a comprehensive and effective solution, including an enhanced environment”. Ole Vitting Petersen, Crisplant Head of Sales & Systems Department, added: “This contract reinforces Crisplant's position as a leading material handling supplier in Scandinavia. We already have a history of major contracts with Svenske Post and see this new contract as the beginning of a long-term collaboration with Tollpost Globe. Although Tollpost Globe is the first operator in the parcel distribution sector to take advantage of the energy savings which can be realised with the LS-4000E, the sorter has already been sold to major airports, warehouses and mail centres globally.”
